I learned about four inventions this week: Ether, the Fax Machine, the Steam-Powered Iron Passenger Ships, and the Ice Cream Maker.
Ether is a drug one breathes in to make that person fall asleep. It is used in surgery to keep people from being awake during surgery. Before Ether, if someone had to have surgery, they would be awake for some of the surgery before they passed out from the pain. Ether is very useful because, instead of people killing themselves, they would have surgery and not feel the pain.
The Fax Machine is used to send a copy of something from one person to another. It works by one person putting the paper they want to be sent into the machine. The machine then copies the paper and sends it to the other person. This was really useful because a copy could be sent to someone in just seconds instead of days being sent through mail.
Steam-Powered Iron Passenger Ships are big ships that run on steam. The Steam-Powered Iron Passenger Ships are like steam boats but instead they sailed in the sea. This was really useful because, rather than it taking around forty days to sail the Atlantic ocean, it only took about fifteen days. That was helpful for things like trading goods.
The Ice Cream Maker is not as groundbreaking as some of the inventions I have talked about, but without it summer days would be very hard. The Ice Cream Maker works by tuning a crank at the top which churns the cream inside the Ice Cream Maker turning the cream into ice cream. There is also ice on the outside of the container to help freeze the cream. It is very useful because without it ice cream would not be cheap.
So finally, my favorite invention is the Ice Cream Maker because I love ice cream.
I definitely share your feelings about ice cream! 😊
