The inventions I learned about this week are the Light Bulb, the Cash Register, the Thermostat, and the Steam Turbine. I will also answer three questions about James Righty.
The Light Bulb is screwed into an electrical socket which causes it to turn on. The Light Bulbs have a glass bulb around the filament to protect it and to keep one from burning themself. It also keeps the filament from rusting over. The benefits of the Light Bulb is it gives people light at any time of the day or night which means one can see easily at night when there is practically no outside light.
The Cash Register is a box that can calculate how much the total is. It also keeps the employees from stealing the money because the receipts the Cash Register prints show how many transactions happen at the store so it is really hard for the employees to steal the money from the Cash Register.
The Thermostat is an instrument that turns the AC and heater on and off. It also measures the air temperature so the Thermostat can keep the temperature at the temperature one has set it to. The Thermostat impacted history because it helps keep people comfortable in a room, and it also helps keep the right temperature in the refrigerator.
The Steam Turbine is used to generate power at power plants. Hot steam is pumped to the Steam Turbine which causes the blades of the Turbine to spin. When the blades spin, it powers the generator. The Steam Turbine has several stages, once the steam runs through the main Turbine then it goes into a smaller one to get all the energy out of the stem. The Steam Turbine changed history because without the Steam Turbine not enough energy would be produced to keep the power on in all the houses.
James Righty is the man who invented the Cash Register. The first question is: why did James Righty not have success in selling the Cash Register? It was because he became too overwhelmed to run both the factory and his saloon. Question two: what could he have done differently to make the invention a success? He should have stuck with it and advertised so he could educate his customers about the benefits of the Cash Register. And finally question three: why did the investors who founded the National Cash Register Company after purchasing the patent and business from James Ritty succeeded where he failed? They educated their customers by putting on public demonstrations, which helped people understand the invention.
So to wrap it up, I summarized and explained four inventions and talked a little bit about the inventor of the Cash Register: James Ritty.
