This week I will give an outline of the following inventions I learned about: Roller Skates, Barbed Wire, the Cowboy Hat, and the Pasteurization Process.
Roller Skates are basically just shoes on wheels. The first type of Roller Skates were like inline skates but when the inventor John Joseph Merlin tried to Roller Skate at a dinner party, he crashed into a giant mirror which shattered. James Plimtom made the Roller Skates safer by putting two wheels in the front and two wheels in the back. Roller Skates impacted history because they provided something fun to do.
Barbed Wire is a fence that has little barbs on which are very sharp, it was invented to keep cattle from escaping. The cattles big bodies could easily knock down fences but with the Barbed Wire it would hurt the cattle to run into the fence. This changed history because cattle could be keeped from eating other peoples crops.
The Cowboy Hat is a hat that cowboys wear. Before the Cowboy Hat people would wear fur caps but they often had fleas on them. The benefits of the Cowboy Hat is that it can keep the sun out of one’s eyes; it also keeps one from getting sunburnt. If it is raining it can also help keep them dry.
The Pasteurization Process is a process that is used to kill some of the bacteria in things like milk, wine, and beer. The way the Pasteurization Process works is the liquid is heated at a really hot temperature for only a few seconds. This helps to kill most of the bacteria which keeps the liquid fresh longer.
So to finalize, Roller Skates is my favorite invention this week because I like to Roller Skate.
