This week I am learning about Riveted Blue Jeans, the Fire Sprinkler, the QWERTY Keyboard, and the Dental Drill. I will summarize each of the inventions and also explain what my favorite invention is this week.
The Riveted Blue Jeans are a type of sturdy pants made out of denim. There is wire in the stitching where the weak points of the pants are. Because of that they are very good for working because the Jeans protect one’s legs from getting scratched up and dirty without getting torn up itself. The Riveted Blue Jeans have impacted history because not only are they good for working in, but they can be very stylish.
The next invention is the Fire Sprinkler. The way certain Fire Sprinklers work is like this: there is a capsule inside the head, and when it gets hot enough the liquid inside it expands. Then the capsule breaks letting the water flow out. The benefits of the Fire Sprinkler is that it can start to put out a fire before the fire department can even get there.
The QWERTY Keyboard is a keyboard specifically designed for a typewriter. It used to be that the keys were A-Z, but keys commonly used together would get stuck when the typer would type too fast. So the keys were rearranged to separate letters commonly used together and eventually it became the QWERTY Keyboard. It changed history because the QWERTY Keyboard helped typewriter sales to take off.
The Dental Drill is a drill used by dentists to drill into people’s teeth to get rid of tooth decay. The Dental Drill spins really fast to help the operation go faster. That also means that the patient feels less pain and that is why the Dental Drill has helped change history.
To sum up this essay, my favorite invention this week is the Fire Sprinkler. Many lives have been saved from fires because of it.
